American Murderer, written and directed by newcomer Matthew Gentile, is based on a true story- a scary one. This intense thriller follows Jason Derek Brown ( played by Tom Pelphrey), a diabolical con man bankrolling his ‘lifestyle of the rich and famous’ through a series of scams. Lance Leising, played by Ryan Phillippe, is an FBI special agent determined to stop Brown once and for all. When Brown starts running out of cash, and his past begins to surface, he plots his most elaborate scheme yet, putting himself against Leising in a deadly game of cat and mouse and becoming the most unlikely fugitive on the FBI’s most-wanted list.
Pop Style TV spoke with Gentile and Phillippe, who appear to get along very well and seem fond of one another. Gentile noted how wonderful it was to work with Ryan; even said he would run some artistic ideas by him as well. Phillippe noted that he comes from a family of police offers and law enforcement, so playing an FBI agent wasn’t too much of a stretch!
The film also stars Idina Menzel, Paul Schneider, Shantel VanSanten, and Jacki Weaver.
American Murderer: Only in Theaters October 21st, coming to digital and on demand October 28th.
