Megan Thee Stallion took over our summer and it’s looking like fall is next on her list. Her latest single, “Don’t Stop” released on October 2nd and has already amassed over 10.6 million views. But besides the catchy tune, the visuals are what’s making viewers replay.
The music video opens with Megan dressed as the infamous Cheshire Cat from “Alice in Wonderland”. If that wasn’t enough, the cat reappears as a mascot and an animated version she later dances on. But odes to the movie doesn’t end there.
A checkered backdrop envelops the Houston rapper with rapid strobe lights and different angles. Similar to Alice, this gave viewers their own taste of dizziness.
As the video progresses, Megan Thee Stallion also adorns an Alice-inspired blue corset. But one of the best costumes was her Queen of Hearts outfit. The red high-low dress was styled with matching red stockings and jewelry. But her extravagant red wig matched the over-the-top theme of the music video.
One of the best scenes was the garden tea party. It was the most colorful scene, with yellows and purples. Although Megan herself doesn’t dress as the Mad Hatter, her backup dancers each wore the signature top hat.
But, audiences were transported to another Tim Burton adaptation—”Edward Scissorhands”. Featured artist Young Thug played the role of Edward. He adorned oversized scissor-hands and matching goggles. The two recreated the popular haircut scene. But no hairstyle was harmed in the making of this video.
Overall, director Colin Tilley kept to Tim Burton’s vision—extravagant, campy, and unexpected. The theme also came as no surprise, as the musician is vocal about her love for horror. The music video matches the fun track and had perfect timing as Halloween nears.
To top it off, the “Don’t Stop” Scholarship was created. The rapper encourages higher education for her fans, especially young women. Megan Thee Stallion is still in college herself. So, two lucky women of color will be awarded $10,000 to assist them in their desired fields of study. The number of applicants already crashed the website. Megan Thee Stallion continues to progress in her career and doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon.
