Review of Selena Gomez’s Beauty Brand “Rare”

Singer/actress Selena Gomez is the latest celebrity to break into the booming beauty business. Having launched on September 3rd, Rare Beauty is the talk of the beauty community. The cruelty-free and vegan brand prides itself on allowing your true beauty to shine through. So it’s no surprise that none of the complexion products are marketed as full coverage. Rare Beauty also sells brushes, lip products, blushes, and more. If that wasn’t enough, Rare Beauty aims to “raise $100 million over the next ten years to help address the gaps in mental health services for underserved communities.” Below are some of the top products Rare Beauty has to offer. Selena Gomez Rare Beauty can be found on its website, as well as Sephora.

Since Fenty Beauty’s debut, the stakes have been high for makeup brands’ foundation. Selena Gomez Rare Beauty’s Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation is making its mark with its whopping 48 shades. The foundation is described as a medium-to-full coverage product. But for those wanting to achieve a barely-there beat, this foundation will mirror your skin with minimal application. The foundation retails for $29.

Following the foundation’s lead, the Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer also provides buildable coverage. As its name states, the concealer aims to brighten the skin. This could be best used for highlighting the under-eye and T-zone areas. According to Rare Beauty, the concealer and foundation shades are a “1:1 match”, so shades will be easily found. Also, its bottle shape is accessible for those with arthritis and other physical disabilities. The Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer retails for $19.

With complexion products, the tool you use is almost as important as the correct shade match. The Liquid Touch Foundation Brush (left) gave the best results with the Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation. Rare Beauty describes the foundation brush’s shape and texture as an imitation of your fingertips, allowing for the best application. Similarly, the Liquid Touch Concealer Brush (right) has the same shaping and material. But, its smaller size allows for more precision under the eyes. The Liquid Touch Foundation Brush and Liquid Touch Concealer Brush retail for $28 and $16, respectively.

Selena Gomez Rare Beauty doesn’t have any eye shadow palettes, unfortunately. But what they do have for the eyes and brows will still create a great look. The Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner comes in a jet black shade with a fine tip. It is also waterproof, creating lasting color. The Brow Harmony Pencil And Gel is double-ended, great for minimalists. The pencil side features a triangular tip for hairlike precision. Meanwhile, the gel is sure to lock everything in place. The Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner is $19, while the Brow Harmony Pencil And Gel is $22 and comes in eight shades.

Although natural looks are “in”, will highlighter ever go “out”? The Positive Light Liquid Luminizer is a liquid highlight, best applied to the high points of the face. Described as buildable and dewy coverage, it will give you a subtle glow. The Positive Light Liquid Luminizer layers well with all formulas and retails for $22.

With the use of masks, it can get annoying when your makeup transfers. But the Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream (left) promises no movement. Instead, it promises moisture with a matte finish. For those wanting a more natural look, the With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm (right) is your friend. Although the lip balm is sheer, it can be built up for deeper pigment. The Lip Soufflé Matte Lip Cream retails for $20 and the With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm retails for $16.

To protect your makeup look, setting spray is a great product to use. The Always An Optimist 4-In-1 Mist is a fine mist spray to set your makeup in place. The finish is described as “natural and radiant…without feeling greasy or sticky.” The mist also claims to help hydrate, refresh, and prime the skin. The Always An Optimist 4-In-1 Mist retails for $24.
