Chuks Collins: Butterfly’s Rebirth

Chuks Collins Spring 2022 collection focused on freedom. Titled “Resurrection,” it draws upon human abilities and desire to create infinite possibilities.

“I was in a place where I was thinking of how we can attain all that we desire through the abilities within us. I became obsessed with the word resurrection, which can feel like nothing even though everything is there. It took me on a journey towards a personal search for that which can be found within myself. The changes were in me; I just needed to look closer.” said Collins

Channeling his inner artist, the designer photographed cocoons to learn more about the butterfly’s rebirth. He also looked for characteristics of strength and structure in the human muscular system, which is another aspect of looking within oneself. These ideas are brought to life through delicate, soft materials and organic structured shapes, resulting in unique silhouettes. The palette is influenced by jewel tones, yellow, royal blue, burgundy and accents of African-inspired designs.

Collins has incorporated the theme of rebirth into the silhouettes by using pleating, thick drapery, knitting, corsetry, and structured shoulders. The designer used his tailoring expertise to create the couture outfits, which featured many hand beading. The human body’s muscularity and the metamorphosis from cocoon to butterfly are intertwined throughout the collection’s concept.

Chuks Collins has quickly established itself as one of the pioneers of cross-cultural high fashion, having dressed celebrities and change-makers like Kerry Washington who was a presenter at the 2021 Emmys, Quincy Jones, Trevor Jackson, and even The Jonas Brothers.

Here are 3 looks to check out that will for sure be trending next season

Pantsuit

This is absolutely stunning and with a twist, literally. The fabric is suede in a gorgeous royal blue. The way the top has the shoulders with a draped piece it simply draws your eyes from top to bottom. As more and more women return to the office or even sit in zoom meetings, this piece is a definite must have.

Light Orange

Let’s talk about the color- it is great to see more people play with colors they wear! Also two piece sets will remain popular seems like. In addition it is perfect for both seasons and can be mixed and matched. As a result, more than ideal.

Butterfly

This look perfectly represents the metamorphosis from cocoon to butterfly. The “jewel tones” bring out reminiscence of the March Birthstone color Aquamarine. The structured shoulder, in addition to the almost seamless piece in the chest area makes it ideal for a lady of any shape or height. What draws most attention is the bottom, the ruffled material on one side. The trend to look out for here is sheer tops and a mixture of fabric.
