Workout like you are a Broadway star and help Broadway Cares. Broadway’s top choreographers, dancers and ballerinas from the American Ballet Theater will be sharing their personal home-workouts daily inspired by their shows on a brand-new Facebook Live Group called “Get in Shape Grrl.” Already an overnight sensation Day 1 with 463 people as of Monday, March 16 and by Tuesday there were close to 1550 members in 36 hours. Now at over 11,000 followers in about a month and the first video received great attention!
A creative idea sparked by Jenna Segal, award-winning producer, (Hadestown, Gigi, What The Constitution Means To Me) philanthropist, and supporter of the arts connected with actress Ashley Fitzgerald Kelly (featured dancer in Cher; also in Trip of Love, On The Town, Gigi) to jump start the series.
“The unthinkable happened when Broadway closed,” Segal says, “As a mom at home with 3 kids and as a producer of women’s works with multiple projects suddenly halted, I thought women know how to take a situation and creatively engage, so what can I do? I adore all the dancers I’ve worked with on Broadway Stars and the ballet so I decided to hire them to get us all moving!”
“During this time where we all need to hunker down and stay at home, want to ensure that we can remain upbeat, moving, healthy and positive through fun cardio and muscle toning sessions for the whole family,” shares Kelly, who met Segal while in Gigi. “We are also asking for people who want to take care of the community to donate to Broadway Cares.”
Each dance/exercise session will combine a mix of 10-minute short workouts to get the energy going along with 45-minute sessions full of strength training and cardio. Some workouts will be LIVE and others will be pre-recorded and posted at specific times. Playlists are on Spotify.
The first class was taught by Khori Michelle Petinaud, ensemble at Moulin Rouge The Musical and Aladdin.
