El Gouna Film Festival 2021 has kicked off in Egypt! The film festival actually had a rocky start as a fire broke out at the site of Egypt’s top film festival a day before it was due to start at the Red Sea resort. After the fire was extinguished, the festival organizers said that the opening ceremony would continue as scheduled on October 14. The film festival takes place from October 14 through October 22 at the Red Sea resort town of El Gouna.
El Gouna film festival was founded in 2017 by billionaire Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris. It’s also a family affair because the El Gouna resort is owned by his brother.
This film festival celebrates Arab productions and this year it will showcase 52 feature films from 36 territories and 23 short films from 34 countries. In addition, a total of 16 films will compete for El Gouna Golden Star award for the best narrative film. The primary goal is to celebrate Arab films; but as the festival gains popularity, it also attracts submissions from around the globe.
What’s a festival without music? The festival opened with Egyptian superstar Mohamed Ramadan who performed his new song! The song’s music producer was a Grammy-winning Moroccan/Swedish producer called RedOne. POP Style TV recently did an interview with him so click the link here to see the interview!
