Global Talent Shines at 53rd International Emmy Awards

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences celebrated the best in global television at the 53rd International Emmy Awards, held in New York City. Hosted by Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, the gala welcomed creators, performers, and industry leaders from around the world, highlighting groundbreaking storytelling across nine countries.

Two major honors headlined the evening. Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, received the prestigious Founders Emmy® in recognition of her three decades championing visionary creators behind landmark series including 24, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Homeland, and This Is Us. João Roberto Marinho, Chairman and President of Grupo Globo, was presented with the Directorate Award for his leadership in strengthening independent journalism and advancing cultural impact across Brazil. The award was introduced by TV Globo news anchor William Bonner and acclaimed actress Lilia Cabral.

“In a world that often feels uncertain, television continues to serve as a powerful force for connection across cultures and borders,” said International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner. “This year’s winners, spanning the globe from Japan and Germany to Australia and Türkiye, reflect the extraordinary diversity of voices and the outstanding programs and performances that define the very best of global television.”

In addition to the two special honors, 16 International Emmy Awards were presented across a wide array of genres, from Drama and Documentary to Kids programming, Non-Scripted Entertainment, and Performance.

Among this year’s winners were Ryuichi Sakamoto: Last Days (Japan) for Arts Programming and Hell Jumper (UK) for Documentary. Spain’s Oriol Pla (Yo, adicto) and the United Kingdom’s Anna Maxwell Martin (Until I Kill You) earned the top acting awards. Celebrated favorites such as Bluey (Australia) continued their global dominance, while acclaimed works including Rivals (UK), Fallen (UK), Deha (Türkiye), and It’s All Over: The Kiss That Changed Spanish Football (Spain) were recognized for their artistic achievement and social impact.

Other nations represented among the 2025 winners include Germany, Canada, Denmark, Qatar, and Spain, illustrating the far-reaching creativity that defines international television today.

As the Academy continues its mission to honor excellence outside the U.S., the International Emmy Awards remain one of the most anticipated global celebrations of the medium-  spotlighting the storytellers shaping the cultural landscape and connecting audiences across continents.
