The self-taught prodigy takes on the Roma Culture during NYFW SS 2019 showcasing his exquisite instinct to enhance women’s natural hour glass silhouette.
Inspired by the Gypsy culture, Michael Costello excited the audience by taking them through an exuberant and romantic world. “Gitana”, as he has named his latest, collection encapsulates a graceful woman who is restrained by tradition and a forced marriage. The Flamenco music, mood palette, soft draping, and well-known daring necklines and slits; highlighted the Gitana woman’s self-discovery and her bohemian rebellion.
This collection was filled with playful prints, vibrant reds, and earthy nudes. Models displayed oversized and jeweled accessories, which emphasized this mystic and sexy world. Costello showed his workmanship with soft and flowing draping, which provides the red carpet flair many look for in his designs. As customary, Costello showed plenty of pronounced slits to the waist and strong necklines that caused a model casually flash spectators – with an unbothered demeanor.
Gitana feels relevant, exciting and true to Costello’s aesthetic. The vibrant red pieces poured sensuality as they were gliding through the runway. These garments were the highlight of the show. The earthy and printed gowns were different and yet flawless in finishes. Throughout the show, male models were wearing harnesses inspired by the endless dances around the fire in Gypsy culture.
All of the pieces in the collection were bold and statement-making moments for women as always. Costello again has proved that he has a vision to keep his designs relevant to many.
